How to Use a Multimeter to Test a Mean Well Power Supply Before You Mount It
If you're about to install a Mean Well power supply, take ten minutes and test it with a multimeter first. A $20 meter can catch a dead-on-arrival unit, verify output voltage, and save you from a $1,200 rework. - Verify the exact model number. Mean Well makes dozens of similar units. The LRS-350-24 and NDR-120-24 are not interchangeable. Read the nameplate carefully.
- Check efficiency. Higher efficiency means less heat, a smaller enclosure, and a lower electricity bill. The datasheet includes efficiency tables at different input voltages. Use them when comparing two models.
- Buy from an authorized route. This is the boring procurement advice. Authorized distributors sometimes cost 10-20% more, but you get traceability and a warranty. The marketplace seller is where my $1,200 failure came from.
